Galaxy Z Fold 8 User Recreates iPhone Duo Animation in Hours

A Galaxy Z Fold 8 user recreated the iPhone Duo animation using Android hinge sensors. See how the proof- of- concept works without native system access.

A fan-made animation on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 mimics the dual-screen transition effect from the Apple iPhone Duo. This recreation demonstrates how Android users can leverage hardware sensors to replicate iOS-style visual tricks. It highlights the flexibility of the Z Fold 8's folding display mechanics for custom software experiments.

Fan uses hinge sensor data to mimic Apple concept on Samsung device

The project relies on Android's hinge-angle sensor data to drive the visual effects in real time. A Reddit user built the proof-of-concept using home-screen screenshots and custom shaders rather than native system code. The effect makes the folding half of the display semi-transparent to reveal content underneath during the transition.

Samsung does not currently allow third-party apps the deep system access required for a native implementation of this feature. The current version functions as a standalone software experiment rather than an integrated One UI update. This limitation underscores the gap between what hardware sensors can measure and what the operating system permits apps to do.

We've been tracking Galaxy Z Fold 8 closely — see our earlier coverage on Samsung Plans Galaxy Z Fold 8. The recreation serves as a technical showcase for what is possible with available sensor data on folding devices. It confirms that the Z Fold 8 hardware can support complex multi-layer visual transitions when driven by external software.

Sanju Choudhary shared the project online, noting the speed at which the animation was reproduced. The post highlights the community interest in cross-platform feature parity for folding smartphones. The animation remains a user-created experiment and not an official Samsung or Apple feature.
