Decky Translator has been updated to version 0.9.0, adding offline translation support for the Steam Deck. The plugin now includes a local translation model that users can download, which is about 1.4 GB in size.
New OCR option and Gemini Vision support included
The update introduces a new OCR option that uses Chromium's Screen-AI and runs locally. This OCR method is now the default and delivers faster and more accurate results than the previous default. The offline translation quality is acknowledged to be a step below the web-based translation option. Additionally, the update adds Gemini Vision support for stylized text, which requires an API key. Dyslexia-friendly fonts and improved overlay text redistribution are also included. Users can allocate RAM for faster recognition, but the developer advises caution when gaming.
The plugin is currently available via GitHub, with manual installation required for now.
