Darksiders Warmastered Edition received a surprise patch nearly ten years after its initial release. The update brings significant performance improvements to the Steam Deck handheld gaming platform.

Update brings Vulkan rendering support and new photo mode to handheld gamers

The patch introduces Vulkan rendering support, which replaces the previous graphics API. Developers also added a new photo mode for capturing in-game images. Users can now utilize gyro aiming and full Input compatibility with their controllers.

Performance testing shows the game maintains a smooth 90 FPS throughout gameplay while consuming the same amount of battery power as before. Earlier versions often dipped below 60 FPS, particularly during intense scenes with large explosions. The updated version never falls below 60 FPS even in confined spaces with heavy visual effects.

Some minor frame drops may still occur during major explosion sequences, but overall stability has improved significantly. Potential issues such as cutscene skipping, audio glitches, or crashes might appear later in the game despite not occurring during initial testing phases.

The updated version costs $19.99 USD (about $19.99) on Steam. THQ Nordic and Gunfire Games have not confirmed a specific launch window for this update.
