AMD is now outselling nVidia GeForce cards for the first time ever on Amazon US. That is an important event because it shows a change in the consumer's buying habit. This happens at a time when the overall demand for PC gaming hardware is declining. More people who are cost-oriented rather than brand-oriented are driving the unit sales to the red team.
Budget gamers drive AMD past Nvidia in Amazon US GPU unit sales as Nvidia prices soar
This change happened within the overall market for desktop GPUs where the green team has always dominated the unit sales. The red team of GPUs like RX 9070 XT and others are now taking a share of the volume because they are providing similar performance for cheaper. Green team is always the leader in the revenue department. But now, they are losing the battle on units.
One of the reasons for this change is the sheer price jump in the Nvidia desktop cards. The 5060 Ti RTX cards are now selling for over $700. Meanwhile, the AMD RX 9070 XT cards can be had for as low as $920.
The competing RTX 5070 Ti can be found selling for over $1,700. This price difference is making it more affordable to budget gamers.
The higher unit sales for AMD GPUs come as a cost for the entire industry when it comes to the overall unit sales. The market for DIY gaming PCs is struggling and hence the unit sales are dropping. But overall revenue for the GPUs is on the rise due to this price increase.
Of course, you are selling less but making more in the process. And it seems that nVidia might also be making fewer GPUs possibly to shift their focus towards the AI market.
As per the X post by TechEpiphany, which collects the CPU and GPU sales information on Amazon, the first time ever AMD has managed to beat nVidia in unit sales of GPUs on Amazon US. This confirms the shift of unit sales without making any inference about the revenue side. The gaming hardware market is currently split between the high-cost AI oriented hardware and value-oriented hardware for gaming.

The prices are just too high now. Budget gamers had no choice but to switch to AMD.
This is what happens when you ignore the mid range market for too long. Nvidia lost the volume war.
Is the RX 9070 XT actually worth the extra cash over the cheaper AMD options or is it just a badge tax?
It offers better rasterization performance. You get more frames per dollar if you are building a pure gaming rig.
I was waiting for a sale to upgrade my card but the RTX 5070 Ti price just broke me. Does this mean driver support will drop for older Nvidia cards?
Driver stability has always been the real differentiator. Unit sales do not guarantee a smooth kernel experience.
The price gap is even wider here with VAT. The RX 9070 XT is the only logical choice for local buyers right now.
