CONSOLES

Walmart has decided to cancel all pre-orders for the Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 console. So, a lot of people will find it difficult to get the limited-edition Switch 2. This decision by Walmart is going to make the whole experience uncertain for the people who wanted to buy the hardware before its release date. This event serves as a sign of the whole supply and demand issues that is facing for their new console release.

Walmart cancels pre-orders for the limited-edition console despite physical stock in stores

The release date for the Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 console is October 29th. So, despite the cancelation of pre-orders, there are some initial units of the console physically in the Walmart stores. People on social media have been sharing images of the black, gold, and green themed Switch 2 console on the shelves of the store.

In the past, we have seen pre-orders for the Switch 2 launch get canceled in May & June 2025. Previously, Walmart claimed that this was happening because of errors on their part. But, people are criticizing them and saying that the cause behind this is them selling too many units. In addition, the Nintendo execs have confirmed that they underestimated the demand for the hardware, which can be a possible reason for the issues they are having logistically.

The Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 console costs $519.99. In the unboxings, we have also been getting a look at the color theme for the special edition console. We have been closely following the console. So, in our previous coverage of the Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 Console, you can get more information regarding the console and how people are receiving it.

While pre-orders are getting canceled, it is not clear whether people will be barred from buying the console directly from the stores. If you want to buy the console on the release date, then you might have to head to the store yourself. This event is showing how difficult it is for the retailers to deal with the high-demand hardware release.

Walmart is just overselling again. They promise stock they do not have. This is a pattern not an error.

If the pre orders are gone can I still walk into the store on Oct 29 and buy one? Or is it all online only now?

The article says it is unclear if in store purchase is allowed. You might have to risk it. Or just wait.

so much for the limited edition hype 😬 they really messed this one up

The supply chain logic here is broken. If they have units in the back why block the pre order sales? It looks like a inventory sync failure at the API level.

i just hope the $519.99 price tag stays stable. i do not need more headaches buying a console.

I am really hoping the black and gold theme looks good in hand. Battery life will be key for long Zelda sessions.
