Metsys Games has recently dropped a new gameplay trailer for Glowing Lamps, providing a deeper glimpse into the narrative-driven stealth action game set in an alternate 1990s Russia. The reason this is important is because we now see how the mix of open combat with stealth mechanics plays a part in a world centered around panel blocks and forgotten tech. For those looking into a narrative heavy action game, watch the gameplay trailer to find out if you're into this environmental danger and conspiracy laced world.
New trailer shows stealth and combat in 1990s Russia setting
Glowing Lamps puts you in the shoes of a former Soviet engineer with KGB special training who digs up a deep conspiracy of oligarchs and spies. The narrative takes hold as you play as the ex-soviet engineer with the added KGB special training, which all provides an interesting framework for a story in a setting where the post-soviet history is taken through a speculative eye. The main gameplay loop is all about how to use the environment to your advantage against the enemies instead of just brute forcing your way through.
As seen through gameplay, the choice between going into an open combat situation or going with stealth tactics to avoid danger is present. Environmental danger also comes into the combat. Something like using propane tanks to blow up a group of enemies is a key element here. You need to find creative ways to overcome the danger as a player and it's all about paying attention to your surroundings before getting into the action.
Glowing Lamps is available on Steam right now for early access/pre order but the publisher has not yet announced a release date. "Soon in the neighborhood" is all they're giving us for now on a release date. Until then, the game is still being worked on by Metsys Games as they work on nailing the stealth/action elements as seen in the latest gameplay trailer.
