Practical Prototyping has a solution for turning your 2019 Mac Pro into a normal PC. The problem with the original 2019 Mac Pro was the lack of ability to upgrade or fix it because it has all proprietary parts. Now people who wish to replace it with more standard PC components can do so without having to purchase a new case.
Kit replaces proprietary internals with standard ATX components
The conversion kit replaces all of the Apple stuff with normal ATX motherboards and power supplies. This allows for graphics cards with a length up to 30.8 centimeters, and a height up to 14 centimeters. CPU air coolers can be up to 14 centimeters high, and 240 millimeter liquid coolers.
Specifications
- Motherboard Support: Standard ATX
- Power Supply Support: ATX
- Max GPU Length: 30.8 cm
- Max GPU Height: 14 cm
- Max CPU Air Cooler Height: 14 cm
The conversion kit keeps the original Mac Pro case, fans, LEDs and power button intact. There is room for two 3.5 or 2.5 inch hard drives. It keeps the original look of the Apple case, but lets you upgrade with standard PC components.
The full conversion kit is priced at CA$699 (roughly $499) for the current Kickstarter campaign. It has a fundraising target of CA$15,000. At this time, there are just 3 backers. The shipping timeframes are yet to be determined as the Kickstarter campaign proceeds.
This is a conversion kit for those wishing to reuse their 2019 Mac Pro as a normal PC. You can use standard ATX motherboards and power supplies in the existing case. This project is raising funds on Kickstarter.
