Retail rumors had floated NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 5090 end-of-life coming as soon as January 2027 – leaving a cloud of uncertainty over the heads of PC gamers and system builders who were looking forward to the big GPU. However, NVIDIA's senior vice president Jeff Fisher has officially shot down the rumors, putting an end to the confusion and saying the GPU isn't going anywhere. Indeed, it's still in the works and will keep shipping as the supply situation improves.

NVIDIA SVP Jeff Fisher officially denies retailer rumors of imminent discontinuation
An end of life situation for the current-gen flagship GPU was in question, thanks to some retailer leak. The leak said that the RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 16GB will hit an end of life situation. But as clarified by Fisher, the supply of the cards may be limited, but NVIDIA has no intentions of stopping the production of RTX 5090. It's an active product line, NVIDIA said, and it'll keep shipping the product as components become available to fulfill orders.
Interestingly, the leak also has some other timeline information – not necessarily confirmed by Fisher – that the last batch of RTX 5080 16GB will land by the end of October 2026. The leak also talks about a placeholder SKU for 24GB variant of RTX 5080 which the source says will arrive early in 2027.
As we've noted before, this leak does corroborate the rumors we've been hearing earlier about how NVIDIA could possibly be diverting its production of GB202 silicon away from consumer GPUs to RTX Pro AI GPUs. We've been keeping you up to date with the rumors like Nvidia reportedly halts GB202 chip supplies for RTX 5090, saving for RTX Pro cards. But this is contrary to what's been officially said as the end of production for the consumer cards hasn't come yet.
There's no end of life situation for RTX 5090 and the GPU is shipping. NVIDIA said this, refuting any rumors. According to NVIDIA, the lack of supply of the card comes down to the supply situation – no other reason. So the product line will keep rolling until the end of life announcement is made by NVIDIA.
