Console Emulation has come along quicker than expected. We've just gotten new footage of Sony's Gran Turismo 7 working on PC with the KytyPS5 emulator. It's proof that big first-party Playstation games can be run on Windows PC, with no crashes. Emulation might provide a way to play those console exclusive racing games on the PC.
Footage shows playable racing sim on Windows PC hardware
High-end PC specs were used to power the PC's emulation of the game. It consisted of an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor with 64GB of RAM. Powering the visuals was an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080. The custom build of the emulator is called "usa-ratt d5bb89e".
Graphics seem fine during gameplay footage. YouTube channel Unreal Gaming PC shows footage of the game being raced on the track. No major graphical hiccups.
This is evidence that KytyPS5 has managed to fix some major issues of rendering the complexities of racing sim games. The environments and physics are rendered without major graphical issues, thanks to the emulator.
Of course, the main issue here is performance. It barely hit a playable 30 FPS during the run. While it's playable, this isn't where PC gaming is at anymore. KytyPS5 has been making strides with other games, like getting Marvel's Wolverine to 20 FPS.
Sony really likes to lock things down. As we pointed out before, Sony's going back to their exclusive talk in ads lately. Gran Turismo 7 on PC shows the technical difficulties these platform locks present. The gap between console and PC experiences is slowly closing thanks to emulation tools.
