Capcom is ending the microtransaction system that required players to pay for character customization in Monster Hunter Wilds. This shift removes the financial barrier for players who want to adjust their hunter’s look or their Palico companion’s gear without spending real money. The change applies to all players once the update arrives, making appearance tweaks a standard part of the game rather than a paid add-on.

Capcom delists voucher packs December 3 before free model launches

The policy change arrives with the Version 2 update, which coincides with the release of the Ascendance expansion in 2027. Capcom confirmed that the game will no longer charge players to change their appearance in Monster Hunter Wilds starting next year. This update affects the core customization loop, allowing players to freely experiment with outfits and accessories without worrying about voucher scarcity or cost.

Current voucher packs will remain available for purchase until December 3, 2025. Character Edit Vouchers come in a three-pack for $6.99 or £5.79. Players can also buy a combined Character and Palico Edit Voucher three-pack for $9.99 or £7.99. These items will be delisted on December 3, 2025, after which the shop will no longer sell them. Switch 2 players will receive 10 of each voucher type when they start the game on December 4, 2025.

Players who bought voucher packs before December 3 will receive 10 free Character Edit Vouchers and 10 free Palico Edit Vouchers. Previous purchasers of a three-pack also get a Special Thank-You Pendant Set containing a Heavenly Hog pendant and a Beelzeboar pendant. The free voucher distribution ensures that early supporters can still customize their characters without buying new packs. This transition period bridges the gap between the paid system and the upcoming free model.

We looked at the last Monster Hunter Wilds update earlier while tracking balance and stability themes. The removal of these fees marks a significant shift in how Capcom handles cosmetic customization. The new system will be fully active with the 2027 expansion, giving players unlimited access to appearance changes.
