The software reworks how playlists and collections are stored in the database. Instead of keeping these items as single packed entries, Jellyfin now saves them as individual database rows. This structural change improves performance for both counting items and removing them from the library.
Jellyfin 12.0 upgrades its transcoding engine to FFmpeg 8.1. The update adds native support for books and audiobooks, reading OPF, ComicInfo, and ComicBookInfo metadata. It generates covers for EPUB files and supported comic archives, extracts page counts from PDFs, and identifies chapters in audiobooks. The modern web layout is now the default interface across all devices.
Users must upgrade to version 10.10.7 or a 10.11.x build before moving to version 12.0. Third-party plugins are broken until developers rebuild them against .NET 10.
