SOFTWARE AND UPDATES

Samsung is preparing to push a major software update to the Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch 8, bringing the latest Wear OS features to older devices. This update matters because it extends the useful life of these watches by adding battery improvements and new interactive widgets. Buyers who already own these models can expect better daily performance without needing to buy new hardware.

Beta builds confirm upcoming software refresh for current generation smartwatches

The update is called One UI 9 Watch and it rests on top of Google’s Wear OS 7 platform. Researchers found internal beta build numbers for the Galaxy Watch 7 on Samsung’s servers, which confirms the software exists. The builds identified are L300XXU2CZG4 and L300OXM2CZG4, and they point to a significant software refresh for the current generation of Samsung smartwatches.

Wear OS 7 brings technical changes that directly affect how the watch operates. Google has designed the update to extend battery life by up to 10 percent compared to previous versions. The system also introduces revamped widgets that are significantly more interactive than the static tiles found in older software versions.

New features in this update include multi-speaker music streaming via Google Cast or Bluetooth for users who want to fill a room with sound. Third-party apps can now access more smartwatch functions through a new Gemini API integration. These changes allow developers to create more capable health and utility apps for the Galaxy Watch ecosystem.

Samsung plans to ship the Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2 with One UI 9 Watch pre-installed. Official rollout details for the Galaxy Watch 7 and 8 will likely be confirmed during the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event. We looked at the last Galaxy Watch 7 update, several of the same balance and stability themes came up as Samsung refines its wearable software.
