fans who want to race on modern monitors have a concrete target date to remember. An unofficial PC port of Mario Kart Wii will launch in August 2026, letting players experience the classic game at higher resolutions. This release matters because it finally brings the title to PC hardware without waiting for a native remake.

Unofficial recompilation brings 4K support and online play to PC

The project, titled Mario Kart Wiicompiled, represents the first static recompilation of the Wii game for PC. YouTuber patchzy announced the port, which rebuilds the original code to run on modern computers. Players will need to supply their own original Wii ROM file to play, as the port does not include in-game assets.

The beta version will support online play and optional Retro Rewind functionality. It features over 200 tracks, expanding the standard roster for competitive racing. The game will support resolutions up to 4K, and it will most likely have an unlocked framerate for smoother performance.

This release targets retro gaming enthusiasts who prefer PC hardware for their library. The port allows players to use modern peripherals and higher display settings. The beta launch in August 2026 marks the first public availability of this specific recompilation.

We looked at other retro PC ports earlier while tracking Nintendo game updates. The August 2026 beta remains the only confirmed timeline for public access to Mario Kart Wiicompiled.
