IO Interactive is stripping the Denuvo DRM from 007 First Light, a move that finally removes the copy-protection layer two months after the game launched. Removing the DRM layer helps reduce performance instability and ensures players can access their saved games without relying on the protection service. The removal coincides with the release of the title's first major update, signaling a shift in how the developer handles the PC version.

IO Interactive removes copy protection and fixes 200 issues

The update arrives as version 1.1.0, marking the first significant patch for the espionage title since its initial release. IO Interactive identified the DRM removal through SteamDB, which tracks file changes on 's distribution platform. This adjustment supports the broader stability improvements included in the new build.

Patch 1.1.0 addresses more than 200 distinct issues that have affected players since launch. The developer fixed critical crashes, visual clipping errors, and bugs that prevented achievement unlocks from registering correctly. These fixes focus on core stability and user experience rather than introducing new gameplay mechanics.

Beyond bug fixes, the update introduces new content for players who want to extend their time in the game. Two new TacSim missions are now available for training and practice. Players can also equip the DRS-7 silenced submachinegun and the 'Diamond in the Rough' outfit. We looked at the last 007 First Light update, several of the same balance and stability themes came up.

The combination of DRM removal and extensive patching indicates IO Interactive is prioritizing long-term stability for the PC audience. The game remains available on , with these changes applied automatically to existing installations.
