ZSNES has announced Super ZSNES, a new SNES emulator that is available for download now. The emulator aims to give classic SNES games an HD remaster treatment without requiring full decompilation or recompilation of the game code.
GPU-powered PPU core enables high-resolution Mode 7
Super ZSNES features a GPU-powered PPU core that enables high-resolution Mode 7 graphics and per-game enhancement features. Its CPU and audio cores are far more accurate than the original ZSNES. The Super Enhancement Engine supports seven popular games with options including High Resolution, Texture/Normal Map, Overclock, Wide Screen, Uncompressed Audio Replacement, and 3D rendering for perspective-style Mode 7.
The emulator is available for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Android. An iOS version is listed as coming soon.
According to a user on the RH Discord, Super ZSNES essentially lets people do HD remaster type mods without having to do a full decompilation or recompilation of the game. The emulator is developed by ZSNES and was reported by RetroHandhelds.gg.
