FireFly Studios has announced Stronghold 4, a medieval strategy game that follows a period of mixed reception for the franchise. The developer will release a demo on on June 23rd before the title enters Early Access later this year. A full launch is planned approximately six months after the Early Access start date.

FireFly Studios details system requirements and release timeline for upcoming medieval strategy game

Stronghold 4 serves as a prequel to the original Stronghold game and features a story campaign with 22 missions. Players control Penryn of Wethel, a shepherd who rises to become a leader in the medieval setting. The base package includes eight AI opponents, skirmish mode, and free building mode at launch.

The game runs on Unreal Engine 5 but targets compatibility with slightly older hardware according to FireFly Studios. Minimum system requirements list an Intel Core i5-4670 processor, GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card with at least 3 GB VRAM, 16 GB RAM, and a 33 GB hard disk. The recommended configuration specifies a 2060 with 6 GB of graphics memory.

FireFly Studios plans to add online multiplayer, co-op campaign, and economic campaign features through post-launch updates. The final version release date depends on the Early Access start time since it is scheduled for around six months after that milestone. The planned release schedule introduces some ambiguity regarding when the full version will become available to players.

The Stronghold franchise faced criticism with Stronghold 3 receiving a Metascore of 47 and Stronghold Warlords scoring 65 points. FireFly Studios rebuilt fan trust through Definitive Editions of earlier titles before announcing this new entry. FireFly Studios is utilizing Unreal Engine 5 and refined gameplay systems for this release.

Stronghold 4 will launch on Steam with a demo available on June 23rd followed by Early Access later this year. The final version arrives approximately six months after the Early Access period begins. The demo allows users to experience the title on compatible legacy systems before additional content is added in future updates.
