The application currently targets Android devices as its initial platform. It supports a wide range of classic systems including the Nintendo 64, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo DS, PlayStation 1, Game Boy Advance, and PlayStation Portable. Users can expect a unified interface that displays cover art and packaging details for their existing ROM libraries.
Depmots built the frontend using the Godot engine, which provides flexibility for future platform exports. The developer stated that this architecture allows for easier adaptation to other operating systems beyond the current Android focus. The project is in early development, with an alpha version expected to launch in approximately one month.
While the Steam Deck is not currently on the official development roadmap, the creator believes support is likely in the future. The Godot foundation simplifies the process of porting the software to handheld PC devices like the Steam Deck. This potential compatibility could make Socket a useful tool for handheld retro gaming once the port is complete.
