Retroid is updating its handheld lineup with more memory, but the change comes with higher prices. Buyers who planned to purchase the Retroid Pocket 5 or Pocket Flip 2 after July 15, 2024, will face increased costs. This adjustment reflects a shift in the company's hardware configuration strategy for these Android-based gaming devices.

Retroid discontinues 8GB models and raises prices for handhelds

The update applies to both the standard Retroid Pocket 5 and the clamshell Pocket Flip 2. Retroid is discontinuing the previous 8GB RAM variants for both models. The company is replacing them with a new configuration that includes 12GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

The price for the Retroid Pocket 5 rises from $199 to $209. The Pocket Flip 2 sees increases across its processor variants. The Snapdragon 865 version costs $219, up from $209. The Dimensity 1100 version costs $189, up from $179.

Retroid is handling existing orders by upgrading them automatically. Customers with unfulfilled orders placed before July 15 will receive the 12GB RAM version without extra charges. This policy ensures early buyers get the improved hardware without paying the new price.
