The Retroid Pocket Duo is here! It's shipping now, and it has something interesting to offer to those retro gamers who wish to take their Nintendo 3DS games on the go. This dual screen handheld is more focused on the performance of its emulation than raw power.
Dual-screen handheld targets budget 3DS emulation niche
It's best suited for those gamers who are more focused on access to a certain library than general gaming speed. If you're interested in a budget way into 3DS emulation, you should know this device is made for that niche, and it's quite competitively priced.
Retroid made the Pocket Duo as a clamshell handheld with dual screens. It's designed to replicate the platform it's emulating. This is possible because of a totally new processor Retroid created specifically for the form factor. It allows for the dual screen experience, while still being a handheld that fits in your hands.

The regular version of this dual-screen handheld runs you $269.00. That makes it quite budget friendly, compared to something like the Anbernic RG DDS, which is using a Snapdragon G2 Gen 2, costs more, and won't ship until later in December. There's also a version, called the Lite Plus, which has different shoulder controls, but the big deal is this Duo for 3DS emulation.
Initial thoughts on the handheld seem to be that it performs pretty well when you're trying to emulate Nintendo 3DS games. It's looking like this could be the best budget option for 3DS. But, there's some question as to whether this will be the case for mass-produced retail units, once they're actually available. Shippers will send them out to pre-orders in about five days.
We've followed this clamshell handheld since it was first announced. Now, we know the shipping dates. We know the verified price.
All you have to do is buy it. Retroid is looking to solve a niche problem: budget-friendly 3DS emulation, without paying for an over-priced unit.
