Grinding Gear Games will release Path of Exile 2 patch 0.5, titled 'Return of the Ancients', on May 29. The developer describes it as the biggest single update for the game so far.

Endgame Atlas map rework and build guides included

The update includes a rework of the Endgame Atlas map and integrated build guides. However, swords and the Duelist class remain absent. Director Jonathan Rogers said he felt worse about missing endgame updates in 0.4 than about missing swords in 0.5.

The full 1.0 launch is targeted for late 2026, after Exilecon. Rogers noted that once the endgame is in a good state, the remaining work is mostly content rather than fundamental design issues.

Rogers explained that the update aims to make endgame content more approachable through 'questification' of mechanics. He said that restricting each league to crafting specific item slots limits the amount of content players need to engage with at once.

Grinding Gear Games has not confirmed whether swords or the Duelist class will arrive in a future patch. Rogers stated that those features are coming eventually, but not yet.
