A new browser game challenges players to identify video game titles using only their patch notes. Patchdle launches today, offering a unique test of gaming trivia for enthusiasts who track software updates. The game shifts focus from gameplay mechanics to the documentation behind them, appealing to players who remember specific version changes.

Browser game challenges players to identify titles from documentation

Full Stack Engineer Håkon Medhus Fornes created Patchdle as a browser-based quiz. The game launched on June 9, 2026, and currently features an archive of over 60 games. Players access the quiz directly through a web browser without needing to install additional software or platforms.

New puzzles appear every day at 8 AM PT, providing a consistent daily routine for users. The developer designed the game to put gaming knowledge to the ultimate test through these specific clues. Each day presents a fresh challenge drawn from the existing library of documented updates.

Fornes previously created Patentdle, a similar quiz game based on patent documents rather than software patches. This earlier project established a format for identifying intellectual property through technical descriptions. Patchdle applies this same structural concept to the gaming industry's release history.
