Nothing Phone 1, 2, and CMF Phone 1 Excluded from Nothing OS 5.0 Update

Nothing Phone 1, 2, and CMF Phone 1 are excluded from the Nothing OS 5.0 update. Phone 1 ends life on Android 15; others get security patches until 2027.

Nothing Phone 1, 2, and CMF Phone 1 Excluded from Nothing OS 5.0 Update
ANDROID

Nothing has drawn a hard line on its software support roadmap by excluding three current models from the upcoming Nothing OS 5.0 update. This decision effectively ends the primary operating system lifecycle for the Nothing Phone 1, while leaving the Nothing Phone 2 and CMF Phone 1 in a maintenance-only phase. Buyers of these devices should note that they will not receive the new Android 17-based interface or its associated features, which are currently rolling out to newer hardware. The exclusion marks a clear cutoff in the vendor's update strategy, shifting focus entirely to its latest generation of devices.

Three devices miss Android 17 upgrade while receiving security patches

The update in question is Nothing OS 5.0, which is built on top of the Android 17 platform. The beta program for this software is already live on select devices, allowing early adopters to test the new environment. However, the hardware lineup eligible for this major jump is strictly limited. The Nothing Phone 1, Nothing Phone 2, and CMF Phone 1 are all listed as unsupported for this specific release, meaning they cannot install the new operating system.

  • Nothing Phone 1 Last OS: Android 15
  • Nothing Phone 2 Last OS: Android 16
  • CMF Phone 1 Last OS: Android 16
  • Nothing Phone 2 Security Patches Until: mid-2027
  • CMF Phone 1 Security Patches Until: mid-2027

For the excluded devices, the software support status varies by model generation. The Nothing Phone 1 has officially reached its end of life, with Android 15 confirmed as its final operating system version. This means no further major Android updates are coming to this specific handset. The device is now locked into its current software state, with no path forward to newer Android releases.

The Nothing Phone 2 and CMF Phone 1 retain a longer support horizon, though it is limited to security rather than features. Both devices will continue to receive security patches until mid-2027. This ensures that these phones remain protected against vulnerabilities for the next few years, even without the new OS interface. Users can expect stability and security updates, but not the functional changes brought by Android 17.

We looked at Nothing Phone 3 Owners Can Apply in our earlier Nothing coverage, which highlights the current focus on newer hardware. The exclusion of these three models underscores the rapid transition in the vendor's product cycle. Owners of the Phone 1 and Phone 2 should prepare for a static software experience moving forward, while CMF Phone 1 users have a few more years of security maintenance to rely on.
