Nothing has drawn a hard line on its software support roadmap by excluding three current models from the upcoming Nothing OS 5.0 update. This decision effectively ends the primary operating system lifecycle for the Nothing Phone 1, while leaving the Nothing Phone 2 and CMF Phone 1 in a maintenance-only phase. Buyers of these devices should note that they will not receive the new Android 17-based interface or its associated features, which are currently rolling out to newer hardware. The exclusion marks a clear cutoff in the vendor's update strategy, shifting focus entirely to its latest generation of devices.

Three devices miss Android 17 upgrade while receiving security patches

The update in question is Nothing OS 5.0, which is built on top of the Android 17 platform. The beta program for this software is already live on select devices, allowing early adopters to test the new environment. However, the hardware lineup eligible for this major jump is strictly limited. The Nothing Phone 1, Nothing Phone 2, and CMF Phone 1 are all listed as unsupported for this specific release, meaning they cannot install the new operating system.

Users can expect stability and security updates, but not the functional changes brought by Android 17.
