Newtech is launching the Ness1300, a compact two-bay NAS designed for clinics and small offices that need reliable local storage. This device replaces the Ness1200 and targets users who require a dedicated server running Windows Server IoT 2025 without relying on cloud services. The shift to a proprietary hardware RAID solution and modern DDR5 memory signals a move toward more robust local data management for these specific workloads.

Compact storage server targets small offices with hardware RAID

The system is built around an Pentium G7400 processor and includes 8 GB of DDR5-4800 memory to handle background tasks and file indexing. Newtech equips the chassis with a 240 GB M.2 NVMe SSD specifically to store the operating system, keeping the main data drives free for user content. This separation ensures that system updates and OS stability do not compete with storage throughput for critical business files.

Specifications

  • Processor: Intel Pentium G7400
  • Memory: 8 GB DDR5-4800
  • OS Storage: 240 GB M.2 NVMe SSD
  • Data Storage: Up to 48 TB (2x 3.5-inch SATA HDDs)
  • Network: 2.5Gb Ethernet

Storage capacity is the primary focus, with two 3.5-inch SATA HDD slots supporting drives of up to 24 TB each for a total raw capacity of 48 TB. Newtech uses its proprietary Kite hardware RAID controller to manage data redundancy across these drives, which should simplify maintenance for IT staff with limited resources. The compact 154 x 270 x 188 mm chassis houses a built-in 250W power supply and a 2.5Gb Ethernet port for network connectivity.

Remote management capabilities include a Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) and various serial and USB interfaces for direct hardware access. The company has scheduled the Ness1300 for release in Japan in October 2026, accompanied by a three-year warranty for early adopters. Buyers in other regions should note that Newtech has not yet announced fixed retail pricing or global launch details for this model.

This launch fills a specific niche for small organizations that need Windows-based server functionality in a small form factor. The inclusion of hardware RAID and a dedicated OS drive addresses common pain points in small office setups where IT support is scarce. We will track whether Newtech expands availability beyond Japan once the initial Japanese release stabilizes.
