NeoGeo AES+ Launch Slipped to September 2027 Amid Component Shortage
CONSOLES

The launch of the NeoGeo AES+ has slipped by nearly a year, pushing the release date to September 16, 2027. This delay matters because it shifts the timeline for retro gaming enthusiasts waiting to play classic SNK titles on modern hardware. Buyers who pre-ordered their units can rest easy, as the company confirmed that all reservations remain secure and prices will not increase.

SNK postpones retro console release to ensure stable global supply

SNK and its partner Plaion are responsible for this updated schedule for the NeoGeo AES+ console. The device is a re-release of the original AES platform, designed to bring vintage arcade and home console experiences to current living rooms. The new date allows the manufacturers to address production bottlenecks that were threatening a rushed market entry.

The console features low-latency HDMI output capable of 1080p video resolution. It maintains full compatibility with original game cartridges, ensuring that existing libraries work without modification. Standard hardware will retail for $249.99 in the US, £179.99 in the UK, and €199.99 in the EU. Game cartridges are priced at £69.99 or €79.99 in their respective regions.

The delay stems from global component supply constraints that limited manufacturing capacity. SNK and Plaion stated they chose to expand production and secure necessary parts rather than launch with severely limited availability. This approach aims to ensure a stable supply chain for the worldwide launch and future support. The Founding Supporter Bonus will be included with launch units.

This update follows previous coverage of SNK's retro hardware strategy regarding the NeoGeo AES+. The company emphasized that they are investing in a bigger future for the platform rather than rushing to market. Consumers should expect a more robust initial stock when the system finally ships in late 2027.
