An enthusiast has ported the classic GameCube title Metroid Prime to run natively on Android, Windows, and without using an emulator. This release matters because it allows players to experience the original 2002 game on modern devices with higher frame rates and widescreen support. The project removes the need for legacy hardware or emulation layers that often alter the original timing and physics of the game.

Enthusiast decompiles GameCube classic for modern mobile and desktop systems

The port was created by a developer known as Odrannnn and relies on decompiling the original GameCube code rather than wrapping it in an emulator. Users must provide their own legal copy of the American version of Metroid Prime 1.00 to play the game. The software runs the original game logic at a fixed rate to ensure that physics and animations remain identical to the console version.

The Android version includes a complete touch control scheme designed for mobile play. Players aim by swiping a finger across the screen and use radial menus to switch weapons and visors. The in-game map supports gesture-based navigation, allowing users to move, zoom, and rotate the view with touch inputs. The PC and Linux versions likely retain traditional keyboard and mouse or controller support.

Additional features include adjustable field of view, mod support, and the ability to transfer save files from the Dolphin emulator. The frame rate is unlimited on all platforms, but the underlying game logic stays fixed to preserve the original experience. This approach ensures that movement speed and enemy behaviors match the GameCube release exactly.

We previously covered a VR mod for Metroid Prime that added 6DOF tracking to the PC version. The previous project focused on immersive hardware integration, while this new port focuses on accessibility and native performance across standard operating systems. Both projects highlight the active community interest in keeping the Metroid Prime legacy alive on modern hardware.

The port is available for download from the developer Odrannnn. It requires Android 9 or newer with ARM64 support for mobile devices. The project remains an unofficial release and does not include the game assets themselves.
