The Grand Theft Auto IV RTX Remix mod has received a significant visual overhaul with the release of Update 1.4.0. This patch matters to players because it fundamentally changes how the game renders its environment, moving away from static skies to a dynamic atmospheric system. Buyers of the mod now have access to physically based lighting and weather effects that were previously unavailable in the standard path-tracing build.
Modder xoxor4d integrates physical atmosphere and updates runtime for better stability
Developer xoxor4d released this update to integrate the Numos Atmospheric Sky System directly into the core modification. The system replaces the game's original skybox with physical atmosphere, volumetric clouds, and a new weather simulation layer. Users can enable or disable this new rendering pipeline at any time through the F4 utility menu, allowing them to switch between the new physical sky and the original game sky.
The update rebases the project onto a newer version of the Remix Runtime to improve performance stability. This runtime adjustment aims to reduce CPU bottlenecks, although the developer notes that optimization issues are not fully resolved. The patch also updates the DLSS and Frame Generation components to version 310.7.0 and tweaks the bridge configuration for better compatibility.
Visual fidelity improvements extend beyond the sky to include enhanced lighting and environmental details. The mod now features increased draw distance for roadside lights and stronger volumetric lighting effects. Emissive surfaces like building lights use vertex colors by default to properly tint and dim, while bug fixes address issues like double-rendered suns and flickering lamps. The F4 menu also includes a performance overlay to help users monitor frame rates and stuttering.
We looked at previous RTX Remix updates while tracking community development for classic titles. This latest release confirms that the modding team is prioritizing atmospheric realism and runtime stability over raw speed gains. The update is available now for users who have installed the Grand Theft Auto IV RTX Remix mod.
