Microsoft released Gears of War: E-Day on PC, and the hardware requirements for smooth play are steep. Buyers with older graphics cards will likely need to upgrade to enjoy the game at high settings. The title runs on Unreal Engine 5.6.1 and demands significant processing power to maintain frame rates.

RTX 5090 is the only card to hit smooth 4K Ultra in Gears of War: E-Day
We tested the game using an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D processor paired with 32GB of DDR5 memory running at 6000MHz. The system ran Windows 10 64-bit with GeForce 617.14 and Radeon Adrenalin Edition 26.9.2 drivers. This configuration allowed us to evaluate performance across a wide range of current and previous generation GPUs.
The game supports NVIDIA DLSS 4.5, AMD FSR 4, and Intel XeSS 3.0t for upscaling. NVIDIA RTX Mega Geometry features are currently exclusive to NVIDIA RTX GPUs. We tested AMD Radeon RX 6900XT, RX 7900XTX, and RX 9070XT cards alongside NVIDIA RTX 2080Ti, RTX 3080, RTX 4090, RTX 5080, and RTX 5090 models.
All GPUs except the RTX 2080 Ti ran the game well at 1080p with Ultra settings. Users with an RX 6900 XT or RTX 3080 will need a FreeSync or G-Sync monitor for the best experience. Our top five GPUs provided a smooth gaming experience at 1440p Ultra settings, though the RX 9070XT dropped to 57FPS at times.
Native 4K Ultra performance requires an NVIDIA RTX 5090 to achieve smooth gameplay. The RTX 4090 could not come close to 60FPS at this resolution and setting. We did not observe any major stutters during testing, as the game pre-compiles its shaders upon first launch.
The hardware demands for Gears of War: E-Day are high, particularly for 4K gaming. Only the RTX 5090 meets the threshold for smooth native 4K Ultra performance. Players should check their GPU compatibility before purchasing the title.
