Microsoft is introducing a new maximum graphics tier for Gears of War: E-Day that pushes visual fidelity beyond standard Ultra settings. This 'Ludicrous' preset matters because it defines the hardware ceiling for players aiming for the highest possible image quality on PC. Buyers with high-end GPUs now have a specific target to aim for when the game launches.
New maximum graphics preset demands high-end hardware for 4K gaming
The title runs on Unreal Engine 5.8 and features this new top-tier graphical mode. Microsoft plans to release the game on October 6, following an open beta that begins on August 13. The beta allows players to test these settings before the full launch.
Performance testing reveals the hardware demands of this new preset. Footage from the closed beta shows the game running on an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D paired with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070Ti. The system uses DLSS 4 Ultra Performance and Dynamic DLSS to manage the load.
The RTX 5070Ti achieves approximately 40 FPS at 4K resolution when using Ludicrous settings with DLSS 4 Ultra Performance. The same hardware drops to roughly 12 FPS at native 4K when Dynamic DLSS is selected. These metrics establish a baseline for mid-high tier performance under the new graphical regime.
We looked at the last Gears of War: E-Day update, several of the same balance and stability themes came up. The game will feature the Ludicrous preset, which exceeds Ultra settings, as a core part of its visual identity. The release date remains October 6, with the beta opening on August 13.
