Asus has released the NUC 14 Essential Fanless, a new mini PC designed for users who need silent operation in a tiny footprint. The system uses a completely passive cooling design, which means there are no fans to generate noise or collect dust. This approach makes the device suitable for office desks, digital signage, or home media centers where quiet performance matters. We can now see how Asus is adapting its NUC lineup for users who prioritize silence over raw processing power.

Silent mini PC features MIL-STD-810H durability and triple 4K display support

The core of the system relies on Alder Lake processors, specifically the N150 or N250 chips. Both options have a 6 W TDP, which allows the hardware to run without active cooling. The chassis measures 135 x 115 x 45 mm and occupies just 0.74 liters of space. This compact form factor fits easily into tight workspaces or behind monitors.

Specifications

  • Processor: Intel N150 or N250 (6W TDP)
  • Memory: Up to 32 GB DDR5-4800
  • Storage: M.2 2280 NVMe + M.2 2242 SATA
  • Dimensions: 135 x 115 x 45 mm (0.74L)
  • Cooling: Fanless (Passive)

Connectivity and storage options provide flexibility for various setups. The unit includes two USB-C ports and four USB-A ports for peripherals. It also features 2.5 Gbps Ethernet, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.3 for networking. Memory supports up to 32 GB of DDR5-4800 via a SO-DIMM slot, while storage uses an M.2 2280 PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe drive and a secondary M.2 2242 SATA slot.

Display output capabilities allow for triple 4K monitor setups. The hardware provides an HDMI 2.1 port and a DisplayPort 1.4 signal via one of the USB-C ports. Asus states the device has undergone MIL-STD-810H durability testing. It supports Windows 11, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, and RHEL operating systems.

Asus offers the NUC 14 Essential Fanless as barebones kits or pre-configured with 8 GB RAM and a 128 GB SSD. Pricing and regional availability details have not yet been announced. We previously covered the Asus Zenbook 14 ships with Intel in our earlier Asus coverage, but this new mini PC targets a different segment. The product fills a gap for users needing a durable, silent, and compact computing solution.
