Embark Studios has clarified the matchmaking system for Arc Raiders following months of speculation. The developer released a blog post to explain how the game balances player interactions and combat encounters.

Developer clarifies continuous combat engagement scale replacing binary PvE PvP lobbies ahead of October update

The matchmaking approach relies on a continuous scale rather than separate PvE and PvP lobbies. Players receive ratings based on their frequency of engaging in combat. The system places users with others who share similar playstyle tendencies while maintaining an element of unpredictability.

Embark Studios confirmed that killing another raider does not instantly force players into aggressive matches. Defending oneself no longer counts as initiating a fight, and shorter rounds carry less weight in matchmaking decisions. Players may still encounter opponents with different combat preferences despite the system's efforts to group similar users together.

The Frozen Trail update arrives in October 2025. The exact mechanics behind the matchmaking scale remain undisclosed by the developer.
