Gamers chasing higher frame rates now have a new target in 's upcoming driver updates. The company is preparing to introduce Multi with an 8X ratio, which could significantly boost performance in supported titles. The technology seeks to enhance visual smoothness by inserting synthetic frames between those rendered by the hardware.

New driver build reveals 8X frame generation ratio and ray regeneration overrides

The new capability appears in the latest AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.6.2 Driver. It builds upon the current FSR Frame Generation mode, which currently supports only a 2X ratio. This means the existing system generates a single intermediate frame, while the new 8X mode will generate seven additional frames on top of the native or FSR 4.1-upscaled frame.

  • FSR Multi Frame Generation Max Ratio: 8X
  • Current FSR Frame Generation Mode: 2X
  • Driver Version: 26.6.2
  • New Driver Overrides: FSR Ray Regeneration, FSR Neural Radiance Caching

References to the 8X mode were discovered in the RadeonTuner tool within the 26.6.2 driver. This potential ratio exceeds 's 4.5 Multi Frame Generation update, which introduced a 6X mode. AMD is also adding driver overrides for FSR Ray Regeneration and FSR Neural Radiance Caching to support these advanced rendering techniques.

It remains unclear whether AMD will include a dynamic target-frame-rate mode similar to DLSS Dynamic MFG. Current FSR implementations have lagged behind competitors in consistency, and users hope this new feature will iron out those issues. We touched on AMD FSR 4.1 May Skip Handheld in our earlier Amd coverage, noting that desktop GPUs are getting support while handheld chipsets may be skipped.

AMD is confirming the development of FSR Multi Frame Generation with an 8X mode in driver 26.6.2. This update adds significant frame generation capabilities and new driver overrides for ray and neural rendering features. The update introduces an 8X frame generation mode that exceeds the 6X capability found in NVIDIA's DLSS 4.5 Multi Frame Generation.
