Samsung unveils UFS 5.0 storage with 10.8GB/s read speeds, 40% better efficiency, and 1TB capacity, arriving in Q4 2026 for next- gen mobile devices.

Samsung UFS 5.0
PC HARDWARE

Samsung has introduced its first UFS 5.0 storage solution, delivering a significant leap in speed for mobile devices. This upgrade allows smartphones and tablets to load applications and process on-device AI tasks with noticeably less delay. Buyers seeking faster responsiveness in their next device will find this standard essential for modern performance expectations.

New storage standard doubles previous generation speeds while shrinking physical size

The new storage technology builds directly upon the existing UFS 4.1 architecture used in current high-end hardware. Samsung designed the UFS 5.0 interface to handle the increasing data demands of advanced mobile computing. The component serves as the primary bridge between the device processor and long-term data storage.

Specifications

  • Sequential Read Speed: 10.8GB/s
  • Sequential Write Speed: 9.5GB/s
  • Power Efficiency: Over 40% improvement
  • Dimensions: 7.5mm x 13mm x 0.9mm
  • Max Capacity: 1TB

Sequential read speeds reach up to 10.8GB/s, while write speeds hit 9.5GB/s. These figures represent more than double the performance of the previous UFS 4.1 generation. The storage package measures 7.5mm by 13mm by 0.9mm, making it 16.7 percent smaller than the prior version.

Power efficiency improves by over 40 percent compared to the UFS 4.1 solution. This reduction in energy consumption helps extend battery life during intensive workloads. The new standard supports capacities reaching up to 1TB for users requiring extensive local storage.

Samsung plans to begin mass production of UFS 5.0 in the fourth quarter of 2026. Device manufacturers will likely integrate this storage into flagship models released after that date. We touched on Samsung DRAM Revenue Surges 95% in in our earlier Samsung coverage.

The UFS 5.0 standard establishes a new baseline for mobile storage speed and efficiency. Consumers will experience quicker app launches and smoother AI processing in devices equipped with this technology. The 2026 production timeline sets the earliest availability for these enhanced hardware features.
