Sega has confirmed that it is still working on multiple reboots of its classic game franchises, despite canceling the ambitious Super Game project. The company announced the Super Game initiative five years ago but has now scrapped it. However, development continues on a slate of reboots that were first revealed at The Game Awards in December 2023.
Reboots of five classic franchises confirmed
Among the reboots still in development are new entries in the Shinobi, Jet Set Radio, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, and Crazy Taxi series. Shinobi: Art of Vengeance has already been released. The other four announced reboots are still in progress. Sega described the Crazy Taxi reboot as an "innovative and fresh style driving action" game. The Jet Set Radio reboot is set in a "counter-culture Tokyo street open world." For Golden Axe, Sega said players will "defeat your enemies with a variety of attacks with swords and magic." The Streets of Rage reboot is a return to the "beloved side-scrolling beat 'em up action series."
In addition to these reboots, Sega is also developing a new Virtua Fighter game and a sequel to Alien Isolation. All of these titles, including the four unreleased reboots, are scheduled for release in the financial year ending March 2027 or later.
Sega has not provided specific release dates or platforms for any of these projects. The company has not commented on the status of the Super Game cancellation beyond confirming that the classic IP reboots remain active.
