SanDisk plans to launch its first SDUC storage cards in capacities up to 8 TB. The Ultra series will include both a standard SDUC card and a microSDUC version. The Extreme Pro line will feature an SDUC card with a maximum capacity of 4 TB.
Ultra and Extreme Pro series offer massive storage with hardware updates required
The new cards follow the SDUC specification, which expands on previous SD Express standards. SanDisk representatives confirmed the product lineup at Computex. Several companies displayed sample cards at their booths during the event.
SanDisk targets different market segments with its Ultra and Extreme Pro series. The Ultra series offers an 8 TB regular SDUC card alongside a 4 TB microSDUC option. The Extreme Pro series focuses on high-performance storage with a single 4 TB SDUC tier.
Current readers cannot support the new cards without hardware updates. Existing SD Express card readers lack compatibility with SDUC formats. SanDisk's Pro Reader also requires an upgrade to handle these larger capacity media types.
The company declined to provide pricing or specific release dates for the new products. A representative stated they could not make a statement on availability at this time. The cards are expected to hit the market shortly according to booth attendees.
SanDisk introduced multi-standard readers that support UHS-II, SDUC, and SD Express simultaneously. These new readers address the compatibility gap for existing users. The hardware changes enable access to the expanded storage capacities offered by the new cards.
