Samsung Display has unveiled the world's thinnest OLED laptop panel at Computex 2026. The Ultra Slim panel cuts the module's outer-edge profile by more than 20% compared to current mass-produced displays. This breakthrough targets high-performance gaming laptops, offering a thinner design without sacrificing visual quality.

Ultra Slim panel uses specialized etching process

The panel is designed for the high-performance gaming laptop market. It uses a specialized etching process that reduces the thickness of both the Thin Film Transistor (TFT) substrate glass and the encapsulation glass by over 30%. Samsung Display says the panel provides device manufacturers with unprecedented design flexibility.

Specifications

  • Thickness reduction: 20% thinner than current mass-produced displays
  • Refresh rate: 165Hz to 240Hz
  • HDR certification: VESA True Black 1000
  • Motion clarity rating: ClearMR 11000
  • Glass thickness reduction: TFT and encapsulation glass reduced by over 30%

Despite the aggressive thinning, Samsung Display has addressed panel warping with proprietary manufacturing techniques. The panel supports refresh rates from 165Hz up to 240Hz. It also achieves VESA True Black 1000 HDR certification, requiring a peak brightness of 1,000 nits and blacks below 0.0005 nits.

The panel boasts a ClearMR 11000 rating from VESA for superior motion clarity. This ensures minimal motion blur during fast-paced gaming. The combination of high refresh rate and deep blacks aims to deliver an immersive experience.

The Ultra Slim panel has not yet reached commercial production. It remains unclear which laptops will first use the technology. Samsung Display is showcasing the panel at Computex to demonstrate its design capabilities.

The announcement follows Samsung Display's earlier development of the world's first 4K 360Hz QD-OLED monitor panel. The company continues to push boundaries in display technology. The Ultra Slim panel represents a step toward thinner, lighter gaming laptops without compromising performance.
