Bazzite-deck is a Linux OS now running on the PS5. This allows you to get direct access to the Steam game library on PS5, effectively making the console from Sony a more attractive option than the Steam deck. Now Playstation owners can have access to PC games without having to purchase new hardware. The OS will allow users to directly go into the Steam Game Mode.
Linux port enables Steam Game Mode on jailbroken consoles
All of this is while preserving the native system on the console.
Bazzite-deck makes use of a jailbreak to circumvent any restrictions by Sony. They use a custom loader, made by the developer rmux. This means that the Linux OS can be installed to an external storage. This avoids having to overwrite the native Playstation OS.
There is an optional KDE environment that can be installed, in case you don't want to use the stream game mode and would like to have the Linux experience. Sony's PS5 comes with an AMD RDNA2 APU with 40 Physical CUs (compute units). However, they only enable 36 out of the box. So on the Bazzite-deck port, there is an option that will let you enable the last 4 CUs to effectively make it a total of 40 active CUs.
This is an optional hardware change, so it will give your GPU some more power in terms of graphical performance. However, the developer is very clear in stating that this may not give you any substantial gains and there's a risk of it crashing your system.
As per initial user reports, it's working well for quite a few demanding games. Games like Genshin Impact, Palworld, rimworld, etc. are all working as intended on the ported OS. You can see that the developer is actively pushing out updates to fix any bugs. This suggests that it's still a work in progress and it may not be super reliable over a long period.
