Elegoo launches the M1 Ultra 3D scanner with 0.02 mm accuracy, Wi- Fi 6, and a 4,800 mAh battery for $1,699. Early bird pricing is available until November 12.

Elegoo M1 Ultra
PC HARDWARE

Elegoo is launching a handheld 3D scanner in the form of the M1 Ultra, aimed at professionals who require precision but aren't looking for the size of a full-fledged industrial scanner. The significance lies in the fact that we now get metrology-class accuracy in a portable form factor, offering professionals who've had to deal with trade-offs between convenience and precision a new option to consider. The target audience consists of users that are in the market for an accurate digital representation of a physical object for reverse engineering, quality assurance, or 3D printing purposes.

Elegoo enters the handheld 3D scanner market with a precision tool

M1 Ultra represents Elegoo's first dedicated 3D scanner, a big step from their previous portfolio which was mainly focused on resin 3D printers. The 3D scanner has a 3-inch touchscreen for direct operation. It's based on a combination of blue laser and infrared structured light technologies. Its multi-mode operation is meant to enable the scanner to work in various surface texture and light environments, so it can provide accurate data capture on different materials.

Specifications

  • Accuracy: 0.02 mm
  • Volumetric Accuracy: 0.02 mm + 0.06 mm/m
  • Weight: 511 grams
  • Battery: 4,800 mAh
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi 6, USB-C

Technical details include volumetric accuracy of 0.02 mm + 0.06 mm/m, which provides accuracy in terms of dimensions for complex geometries. The unit weighs 511 grams and features a 4800 mAh battery that can be used for longer scanning sessions without being tethered to an outlet. It supports Wi-Fi 6 for wireless transmission to PC as well as USB-C port for charging. Specific requirements for markerless scanning modes are currently being clarified by the manufacturer.

Elegoo's M1 Ultra is priced at $1,699 globally. An early bird price of $1,599 will be available until November 12. The scanner can be purchased from the official store as of October 29.

M1 Ultra is now a direct competitor to the likes of Creality Sermoon P1. This is a hardware that can now be purchased right away at the stated prices for all those that are in the market for a small-form-factor, high-accuracy tool for professional use.

M1 Ultra shows that Elegoo is indeed getting into the precision scanning hardware game with a product that offers portability alongside industrial accuracy. Those interested can buy it at a discounted price until the end of November, after which the regular price will kick in. This product sets a new standard for handheld scanners in the mid-range professional scanner category.

Does the Wi-Fi 6 module handle the data throughput for the 34-line blue laser mode without dropping frames, or do we need a wired connection for full resolution? 🤔

The 34-line mode is likely too data-heavy for wireless on a handheld CPU. You will probably need USB-C for that specific mode to avoid buffer underruns during high-speed sweeps.
