has published the top popular free demos list from the Next Fest 2026 event! This official list is a great tool for finding interesting games in a sea of choices. And it’s a great feedback for developers as well.

Valve publishes official rankings of the most popular free demos from the October 2026 festival

The event took place across October 2026 and there were tons of indie and AA games on offer. Over 8000 game demos were available, more than twice as many as the last year.

And the same trends as in our last Steam Next Fest update – balance, stability. Valve has collected all the data and selected the most interesting ones instead of the quantity.

The ranking was based on the number of unique players who played the demos during the next fest week. The first place is taken by the Worst Class Ever. A co-op simulation of a chaotic situation in the classroom with students and a teacher.

Such player-based ranking is a guarantee that you get the most popular ones based on the popularity rather than money spend on marketing. Probably Stolen, a cyberpunk shopkeeper simulator is also in top 5. Find The Needle, a game where you have to find the needle in the haystack is also on the list.

And of course, the Fart Together! Humor and simplicity – the power that attracts many people.

These are some examples of the variety of creativity we've seen in October. The top 50 list is a great snapshot of what's popular now in the indie games space.

And now you can just go and check out these verified popular demos instead of digging thousands of unreleased games. It proves that co-op and simulation are one of the key pillars of Steam Next Fest.
