on October 13, 2026 released a big Client update. Many popular features from the Beta branch migrated to the stable build. These changes are important as they provide an easier way to handle non- games. Also, the home screen look and feel got a nice update. People who bought a Steam Deck and hoped to improve streaming experience and customize things better now can without toggling the beta flags. We had some similar stability stories in the past. But here it's more about visuals and performance.

The new Big Art Mode fills the Steam Deck display with full-screen game artwork.

Major Steam Deck Client update brings Big Art Mode and Pyrowave codec

New 'Big Art Mode' settings appeared. In Settings > Home you can turn it on and get full-screen game art on the display. The home screen gets a Personal Calendar in the Recommended tab. Now it's easier to keep track of events. So, it looks more like a media machine. Not just a game machine.

With the experimental Pyrowave video codec Remote Play just got better. It's for high bandwidth/low latency streaming. Combined with improved Vulkan capture. For non-Steam games (Windows binaries) now runs by default. No more manual settings and so many steps to deal with. It's automated now.

Steam Controller update comes with a second slot for BLE pairing. So you can switch devices easier. It also has improved rumble emulation. You can set rumble intensity levels for better tactile feedback. Steam Input configurator updates now allow for multiple binding pages. Also, CPU performance improved. Hardware/input enhancements go hand-in-hand with software upgrades. So, it feels more responsive when using it as a handheld.

From the article author. He was excited about the big changes coming from the Beta branch. This update confirms everything Valve was testing for the last few months. Now you can enjoy full-screen art. Have automated game compatibility. Get better streaming without waiting for the next round of betas. Now it's all here, ready to use. And it's in the normal Steam Deck update channel.
