Bungie has released the Nightfall Refresh update for Marathon, resetting player progression and the in-game economy. This move clears the slate for everyone, letting players start fresh without carrying over old advantages or debt. The change matters because it levels the playing field before the game’s first major permanent content drop.

Nightfall Refresh wipes economy while Symbiosis brings first permanent PvE mode
The update, version 1.1.9.2, arrives alongside a six-month content roadmap that shapes how players will experience the game. Bungie is shifting focus toward a structured release schedule that includes both player versus environment and player versus player modes. This roadmap gives players a clear timeline for what features to expect in the coming months.
The immediate update resets progression, while the December 8, 2026 Symbiosis patch introduces the first permanent PvE experience. That patch also adds an expanded Perimeter, a new social space, and improved onboarding for new players. A new Runner shell called Bishop joins the roster, designed for speed and melee damage.

Bungie describes Bishop as a fast, surgical hunter-killer that rewards players who rely on surprise and devastating melee bursts. The developer stated that this playstyle will be specifically supported by the new shell's design. This detail helps players understand how to approach combat in the upcoming PvE content.
A March 2027 update plans to connect PvE, PvP, and PvEvP survival experiences with new zones and enemies. This integration aims to unify the game's different modes into a cohesive survival loop. The roadmap shows Bungie is building toward a more interconnected experience rather than isolated game modes.
We covered the last Marathon update, and several of the same balance and stability themes came up again. This new roadmap addresses those concerns by providing a long-term plan for content delivery. Players now have a concrete schedule to follow as the game evolves.
