Razer has released the Wolverine V4 Pro, a high-end wired gamepad that targets competitive players who demand precise analog control and rapid input response. The controller introduces a new thumbstick architecture that the company claims outperforms the magnetic sensors found in many modern rivals. This shift matters because it offers a tangible upgrade in tracking accuracy and power efficiency for serious gamers who rely on consistent thumbstick behavior.

New controller features 3,000-step capacitive thumbsticks and 8,000Hz polling
The device centers on high-resolution capacitive thumbstick sensors paired with a dedicated 16-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) chip. This hardware combination allows the thumbsticks to register approximately 3,000 distinct steps of movement, which translates to smoother and more granular control during gameplay. Razer states that this capacitive approach provides superior resolution, power efficiency, and resistance compared to existing TMR and Hall Effect thumbsticks.
Razer Wolverine V4 Pro Specifications
- Polling Rate: 8,000Hz (PC)
- Thumbstick Technology: High-resolution capacitive sensors with 16-bit ADC
- Thumbstick Resolution: Approx. 3,000 steps
- Back Buttons: 4 removable
- Claw-Grip Bumpers: 2 removable
Input speed is a primary focus of the V4 Pro, which supports an 8,000Hz polling rate on PC to deliver sub-1 millisecond response times. The controller also features four removable back buttons and two removable claw-grip bumpers to accommodate different hand sizes and grip styles. Additionally, the Pro HyperTriggers offer a customizable actuation range from 1.3 mm to 8.2 mm, allowing users to adjust the trigger pull distance to their preference.
Platform support varies significantly between PC and Xbox consoles, with the Xbox version limited to a 250Hz polling rate. The wireless Razer Wolverine V4 Pro is priced at 199.99 USD (around $200). Razer also announced a separate Tournament Edition model, though the company has not yet released its specific price or technical specifications.
Jeffrey Chau, Head of Global Esports at Razer, emphasized that the design process focused on the needs of professional players. He stated, "At Razer, we build for the pros, which means listening to what competitive players actually need to win. The Wolverine V4 line is the result: high-resolution precision, ultra-fast response, and the customization to make it their own, engineered to meet the demands of the world's best." The controller is now available for purchase at the stated price point.
