Embark Studios is opening the gates to Arc Raiders for a limited window, allowing players to jump in without spending a dime. This temporary free-to-play event runs from October 8 to October 12, 2026, giving a broad audience a chance to test the game on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. The move offers a low-risk opportunity for new players to experience the shooter before committing to a purchase or navigating the live-service economy.
Frozen Trail update launches alongside free access window
The free access coincides with the launch of the 'Frozen Trail' update on October 8. This major content drop introduces a new map, additional enemies, fresh gear, new outposts, and a battle pass. A premium 'Frozen Trail Collector Set' add-on will launch with the update, offering cosmetic and convenience options for interested players.
Arc Raiders has seen significant fluctuations in its player base since launch. Peak concurrent players dropped from over 480,000 at release to approximately 29,000–40,000 in recent months. The free access window seeks to counter recent player declines by making the game easier to start and encouraging former players to return.
Following the free-to-play window, Embark Studios will begin testing a full-fledged PvE mode on October 13, 2026. This test follows earlier experiments with a Rebellion mechanic in China, where balance and stability themes were also central to the feedback loop. The upcoming PvE test marks a further expansion of the game's core mechanics beyond its original extraction shooter design.
