Bethesda just pushed a major update to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition that changes how players manage mods on consoles and handhelds. This matters because the new storage limits and interface tweaks directly impact how much content you can install and how easily you can find it. We see this as a practical shift for anyone who relies on the Creation Club or community mods to extend the game's lifespan.

Patch increases storage limits and fixes Steam Deck crashes

The update targets the August 20 Title Update for the Special Edition, affecting , Xbox, PlayStation 4, and users. Bethesda is aligning the Skyrim Creations Menu with other titles like Fallout and Starfield to create a more consistent experience across their platforms. This standardization helps players navigate the store without learning a new layout for every new release.

Mod storage limits have increased to 15 GB for both PlayStation 5 and Xbox, while PlayStation 4 users now have approximately 16 GB of space. The storefront user interface now supports larger box art dimensions of 3640 x 900 and 900 x 506 pixels. These changes ensure that mod creators can use higher resolution assets without immediate resubmission requirements for older images.

The patch also introduces Achievement-Friendly and Trophy-Friendly options for Verified Creators, allowing certain mods to no longer block platform rewards. Players can now sort Creation categories by Most Popular and view Work-In-Progress items when bookmarked. Bethesda fixed several crashes that previously affected Deck virtual keyboards and race transformations, while the Creation Kit gained localization export support and multiple master load capabilities.

We looked at previous Skyrim patches earlier while tracking Bethesda's console release schedule. This update confirms the developer's ongoing commitment to stabilizing the modding ecosystem on modern hardware. The changes provide more storage and better tools for creators without altering the core game mechanics.
