Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is introducing a new background process designed to smooth out gameplay on PC. This feature targets the stuttering that often occurs when a game loads visual data for the first time. Players will notice fewer interruptions during intense combat sequences because the system prepares these elements in advance.

Activision introduces background process to smooth PC gameplay
The publisher Activision states that Infinity Ward and Beenox collaborated to build this Shader Preloading tool. The feature is currently available in the upcoming Open Beta starting August 28. This early access allows the development teams to test the system across a wide variety of PC hardware configurations before the full launch.
Shader Preloading runs automatically before you launch the game and after major updates. It configures how textures, surfaces, and lighting render on your GPU to prevent loading hitches. The process is optional and uses minimal CPU resources while running in the background.
You can disable Shader Preloading entirely in the game settings or cancel the process mid-way. If you cancel it, the system remembers where it left off and resumes from that checkpoint next time. Activision notes that this flexibility ensures the feature does not interfere with other system tasks.
