Marvel's Wolverine shifts focus from a team-based ensemble to a singular character study, changing how players will experience the narrative. Insomniac Games confirmed that Logan is the only playable character, removing options like Jean Grey that fans might expect from a Marvel title. This linear approach simplifies the roster but tightens the storytelling around one specific hero's journey. Players seeking a traditional superhero team-up will find a more intimate, focused experience instead.
Insomniac Games confirms Logan is the only playable character in the upcoming PS5 title
The game launches exclusively on the PlayStation 5 on September 15. Insomniac Games developed the title as a linear, story-driven experience rather than an open-world sandbox. Developers Jess Reiner-Reed and Mike Fitzgerald clarified the scope during recent discussions. They stated that Wolverine is our only playable character, ensuring the narrative remains centered on Logan's perspective throughout the campaign.
New Game Plus mode arrives on day one, allowing players to retain their unlocked loadouts and progression from a first playthrough. Jess Reiner-Reed explained that you can use all of your loadout and progression that you already unlocked. You can choose whatever suit you want. So there’s some fun things that happen there. And also there are some adaptations that are only available in New Game Plus. So there’s some fresh gameplay for folks.
Post-launch content will include collectibles for suit unlocks and unique trials called Nightmare Doors. Mission Replay mode lets players revisit earlier missions to find missed items or complete challenges. These features provide additional depth for those who want to master the combat system. The combination of replayability and suit customization offers variety beyond the main story.
The game represents a streamlined entry in the Marvel gaming space, prioritizing narrative cohesion over roster breadth. Players can expect a focused PS5 experience with immediate replay value through New Game Plus. The September 15 release date is now set for global availability on the console.
