Cities: Skylines – Expanded Edition brings the city-builder to Nintendo Switch 2 on October 28, offering a significantly larger canvas for players who outgrew the original handheld limitations. The update matters because it removes the strict tile cap that constrained urban planning on the previous Switch version, allowing for sprawling metropolitan designs. Paradox Interactive and Tantalus Media have optimized the title to deliver improved visuals and better performance on the new hardware.
Expanded Edition adds keyboard and mouse support alongside 10 DLC packs
The Expanded Edition targets Switch 2 owners with a version that supports both keyboard and mouse input alongside traditional controller configurations. The inclusion of keyboard and mouse support alongside controller options allows players to choose their preferred method of interaction. The game retains the core loop of building roads, managing public services, and satisfying citizen needs, but now operates on a much larger scale.
- Buildable Tiles: 25 (increased from 9)
- Graphics Options: Performance (60 fps with upscaling) or Quality (30 fps)
- Input Support: Keyboard and Mouse alongside Controller
- Included DLC: 10 Expansions and Content Packs
The most notable technical change is the expansion of buildable tiles from 9 to 25, effectively tripling the available construction area. Players can also access a Map Editor to create and customize landscapes before starting their cities. Additional user experience improvements include precision placement, a distance indicator, and updated snapping options for more refined construction. An Environmental Controls Panel allows real-time adjustment of atmospheric elements like time of day, rain, and fog.
Graphics options now let players choose between a Performance mode targeting 60 frames per second with upscaling or a Quality mode targeting 30 frames per second with prioritized visual fidelity. The package includes 10 downloadable content expansions and content packs, such as After Dark, Snowfall, Green Cities, Sunset Harbor, Map Pack 3, Country Road, Pearls from the East, Deep Focus Radio, Carols, Candles & Candy, and Match Day. Players who already own Cities: Skylines on the original Nintendo Switch are eligible for a 70 percent loyalty discount on the Expanded Edition, valid from October 28, 2026 to April 28, 2027.
The game launches on October 28 for $49 USD (around $49.00), £41.49 GBP (around $55.03), and €49 EUR (around $55.13). New content for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox also arrives on the same date, including the Holiday Getaways and Mansions & Manors creator packs, plus the Blueprint Beats Radio station. These additional items are available separately or as part of the Estates & Escapes Bundle. Cities: Skylines – Expanded Edition launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 28, 2026.
