Pokemon Gold Gets 3D Voxel Mode in gen1recomp v0.1.79 Update
GAMES

The latest update to gen1recomp brings the original Pokemon Gold to PC with a new 3D voxel mode. This change lets players view the classic Game Boy Color world in three dimensions instead of the traditional 2D sprite layout. We can now navigate these familiar routes from a fresh perspective using modern input methods.

New patch adds 3D voxel rendering and zoom controls to the classic title

Developer bryanthaboi released version v0.1.79 of the tool to enable this unofficial PC port. The software currently supports four specific titles: Pokemon Red, Pokemon Blue, Pokemon Yellow, and Pokemon Gold. Each game runs through the recompilation engine to translate the original code for modern systems.

The new 3D voxel rendering feature activates when you press the '3' key while in-game. You can then use the '4' key to zoom in and out through every level of the map. The tool also includes standard save and load functionalities to preserve your progress during these new 3D explorations.

We looked at the last gen1recomp update while tracking these balance and stability themes. The project remains open-source and available for download via GitHub releases. Users interested in testing these features can grab the latest build directly from the developer's repository.
