is raising the price of the console across major global markets. The company announced that the standard retail price will increase from $449.99 to $499.99 in the United States. This adjustment marks the first time the console has crossed the $500 threshold in its home market.

Console cost increases globally starting September 1st

The price hike extends to other regions with specific local currency adjustments. In Europe, the cost rises from €469.99 to €499.99. Canadian retailers will see the price jump from $629.99 to $679.99 CAD. Japan faces the most significant relative increase, with the Japanese-Language System moving from ¥49,980 to ¥59,980.

The new pricing structure takes effect at different times depending on the region. Prices in Japan for the console will update on May 25, 2026. Global pricing for the Nintendo Switch 2 will become effective on September 1, 2026. Nintendo also raised subscription fees for Switch Online services in Japan, with changes starting July 1, 2026.

The company is simultaneously increasing the cost of its existing hardware lineup in Japan. The Nintendo Switch OLED Model price rises from ¥37,980 to ¥47,980. The standard Nintendo Switch increases from ¥32,978 to ¥43,980. The Nintendo Lite model also sees a hike from ¥21,978 to ¥29,980.

Nintendo has not confirmed the launch window for the Multi-Language System in Japan. Sources indicate the price for that specific model will remain unchanged. Industry observers note that the price increase aligns with broader economic pressures affecting hardware manufacturers.
