Rockstar Games has confirmed that GTA 6 will launch exclusively on consoles first, marking a return to the studio's historical release pattern. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick stated that console players are the core consumers who must be served first and best before other platforms are considered. This decision was made without any marketing deal with PlayStation, as Rockstar has always prioritized console releases in its history.

The company explained that historically, PC sales for major titles account for only 45% to 50%, whereas their NBA 2K series saw PC players represent just 5% of total sales. For a release like GTA 6, the developers will be judged by serving the core console audience with the highest quality experience. This approach ensures that the primary consumer group receives the best product before expanding to other markets.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick emphasized that if the core consumer is not served first and best, then hitting the other consumers will be an issue. The studio has gone console-first because console players are the core consumers who drive the success of major titles. This strategy aligns with Rockstar's long-standing tradition of releasing games on consoles before any PC version.

According to sources including Insider Gaming and Bloomberg, this announcement reflects a strategic shift based on sales data from previous projects. The company believes that focusing on console players first will allow them to build a strong foundation for future releases. This approach ensures that the core audience receives the best experience possible without compromising quality.
