A second developer is independently porting Super Mario 64 to the Game Boy Advance. The project is led by Brendan Tobias Friedly, also known as Game of Tobi. It is inspired by an earlier port attempt by Joshua Barretto.
Port runs at 5-15 FPS on original hardware.
The current build of the port runs at 5 to 15 frames per second. Friedly describes the performance as genuinely playable. The Game Boy Advance's CPU runs at 16 MHz, which makes the port a technical challenge. Friedly called the work of squeezing out playable performance "ridiculously complicated."
The goal of the project is to make the entire game playable on original GBA hardware. The port is an independent fan effort and is not affiliated with Nintendo.
Time Extension reported on the project. Nintendo has not confirmed any details about the port.
